The students in the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism are very active in promoting the hospitality industry. Each year our students travel to conferences and tradeshows as well as volunteer for industry activities and functions.
Each February, students travel to the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality national conference. Our students are exposed to networking and recruitment opportunities with some of the industry's leading companies. In addition to networking and recruitment opportunities, our students learn about diversity and human resource issues that impact our industry.
In May, our students travel to Chicago for the National Restaurant Association Conference and Tradeshow. Our students attend the Salute to Excellence Workshop and Gala, which celebrates the achievements of students around the country as well as the achievement of our industry leaders. At the tradeshow, our students represent the School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration at our exhibit booth. The students learn about the new and innovative products and services in the restaurant and food and beverage industry. Each August, our students represent the School of HRT at the Louisiana Restaurant Association Food Expo. Our students work our exhibit booth and learn about new food products and services from the Southeast region.
Each November, our students travel to New York City for the American Hotel and Lodging Association Conference and Tradeshow. Our students learn about all the new and exciting products and services in the lodging industry and represent the School of HRT at our exhibit booth. While in New York City, our students schedule field trips to local hotels such as the Waldorf=Astoria!
Along with traveling to the conferences and tradeshows, our students are active in volunteer industry functions and activities. Our students volunteer for function such as the Taste of the Town - a gala food and beverage function to benefit a local park and culinary education in New Orleans. Our students also serve as greeters at our convention center, local hotels, and the airport when large conventions visit our great city. These activities and many more keep our students ON THE MOVE in the hospitality industry.
